The state’s mega health insurance scheme Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana (RGJAY), which was revamped as the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) in August, was scheduled to be launched last Saturday but the deadline has been missed. The scheme will now be launched on October 21. A senior source in the health department said the delay is due to “technical and administrative reasons, including the fact that tenders issued for the scheme did not get adequate response.”

The source refused to elaborate on the reasons behind the delay. The revamped scheme will provide insurance for 1,100 ailments instead of 900, as was the case in the earlier scheme.

Doctors working in civic-run and state-run hospitals are still working as per the RGJAY scheme, as they have not received any circular from the government on the matter.

An official from the RGJAY Society said, “There are technical and administrative errors that are delaying this new scheme. Contract conditions were modified to restrain its clarity.”
