The Mahim police on Saturday arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a middle-aged woman under the pretext of giving her a massage after trespassing into her house in Central Mumbai about a month ago.

According to the Mahim police, the accused is identified as Krishna Makrand Gore (40), a resident of Nagri Nivara parishad in Goregaon (east). On November 21, the elderly woman’s son, the complainant, left for his work around 10 am. His wife was also not home as she had gone to buy vegetables from the market.

Gore entered their house and told the victim, who is around 50 years old, that he was a good friend of her son, the police said. Telling her that his son had told him about her back problem, he lied that he is a maalishwala (a masseur) and would help her get rid of the pain. He then closed the door of the house and tried to remove her clothes and inappropriately touched her private parts, the police said. The woman was taken aback and said to the police that she did not understand what was happening and pushed him away. Around the same time, the woman’s daughter-in-law arrived from the market and knocked on the door. Opening the door, the accused said he was a masseur and would come again with the oil. Following this, he fled the scene.

When the woman told her daughter-in-law Gore was her son’s friend, they cross-checked this with her son. The shocked complainant rushed home on hearing this, the police said.

An FIR was registered under sections 354 A (Sexual harassment) and 448 (Punishment for house-trespass) against an unidentified person at the Mahim police station. On Saturday around 1 pm, the victim’s daughter-in-law saw the accused in Mahim area and identified him. He saw her too and started to run.

The daughter-in-law chased him and asked for help from two men in the vicinity. Both started to chase the accused, but Gore tried to flee on his motorbike. One of the men blocked his way but Gore rammed his bike into him, injuring his leg. The man was admitted to a hospital in Central Mumbai.

Gore was nabbed by the other man and the daughter-in-law alerted the police. The accused was taken into custody and a magistrate’s court remanded him to police custody till December 23.
