In a bizarre incident, a man whose wallet slipped through the toilet pulled the chain of the train, holding it up for over an hour at Kalyan while he got off and searched for his wallet on the tracks below on Tuesday.

The man identified as Mukhtar Ahmed Mohhammad Idressh Ahmed (25), pulled the chain of the mail express train that departs from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and is headed to Darbanga. While the train departed on schedule at 12.15 pm, at about 12.57 pm as the train began to move out of Kalyan, Ahmed pulled its emergency chain, called Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP) in railway parlance.

The incident caused a lot of confusion as he got down and began to search for his wallet without informing any railway official. “For almost half-an-hour, we were searching for the person who pulled the chain. One of our men noticed a man bending down and searching for something on the track. When asked, he said his wallet had fallen down when he was in the train’s toilet. That’s when we realised that he had pulled the chain,” said a Railway Police Force (RPF) official on condition of anonymity. Ahmed was taken to Kalyan RPF post and a case under the RPF Act section 141 (needlessly interfering with means of communication in a train) was registered against him.
