Salman Khan hit and run case: Mixed reactions from victims

The victims of the hit-and-run accident involving actor Salman Khan have different views with one of them saying he was happy with the judgment, but wants compensation. Another victim said Salman deserved to be punished and the government should approach the Supreme Court.

Senior lawyer Abha Singh raised several queries after the judgment, asking a simple question, “If Salman (Khan) was not driving, then who was ”

Speaking to The Asian Age, Ms Singh said, “It has raised a question mark on the criminal justice system. It’s a sad day for it. If Salman was not driving, who was If driver Ashok was driving, then why no action against him Why was the chemical analysis report not taken into consideration ”

“Why was (former police guard of Salman) Ravindra Patil’s statement not considered Section 32 and 45 of the Evidence Act has not been paid heed to,” she added.

“The procedural lapses have been used to deny justice. The Maharashtra government must approach the Supreme Court. If the police did not do their duty in this case then why are they not being punished ” questioned Ms Singh.

Speaking to this newspaper over the phone, Mohammad Aziz Abdul (46), who is named as Mannu Khan in the case said, “I had fractured my leg. It is important that the government approaches the SC. How will I get the compensation otherwise I saw him in the driver’s seat.”

“He was sitting in there for 15 minutes. I saw him getting out of the driver’s seat. He paid for my treatment, but even after that I spent around Rs 50,000. I still feel the pain in my leg during winter. I will approach the police and tell them I saw him drive,” he added.

Mohammad Ayub (23), son of Aziz Abdul said, “I want the government to approach the Supreme Court. Everyone knows everything. What is there to say Everyone knows how they get away!”

On the contrary, another victim, whose leg was severely injured, said he wanted Salman to get acquitted, but wants “someone” to pay compensation. The victim, Abdulla Shaikh, said, “It’s good they released him, even I wanted the same. But I want something for me. I have five children.”

I can’t earn now. I want something so I can settle their future.” A rod had to be fitted in Mr Shaikh’s leg, due to which he can’t walk without limping.
