No FIR yet in Chitra Salunkhe case
Even as over a month has passed, there is no word on the FIR that was to be registered against three senior police officers, as directed by the National Commission of Scheduled Caste (NCSC), for allegedly filing an affidavit before them with erroneous facts against law professor Chitra Salunkhe.
Even as over a month has passed, there is no word on the FIR that was to be registered against three senior police officers, as directed by the National Commission of Scheduled Caste (NCSC), for allegedly filing an affidavit before them with erroneous facts against law professor Chitra Salunkhe. Ms Salunkhe is fighting a case against K.L. Bishnoi, a serving IPS officer in Maharashtra, who allegedly topped his law exam without appearing for a mandatory practical test. Ms Salunkhe was the examiner in the exam. After allegedly being “harassed” by IPS officers trying to “shield” Mr Bishnoi, Ms Salunkhe approached the NCSC in 2011, following which, the then police commissioner, Arup Patnaik, was asked to file an affidavit on the issue. However, Ms Salunkhe pointed some errors in the affidavit he filed. On September 3, NCSC vice-chairman Dr Raj Kumar Verka asked the present police commissioner to file an affidavit. When contacted on October 4, he said, “I’ll have to check if the report has reached me.”
