Now, do MBA in disaster management

You can now do a Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in disaster management.

You can now do a Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in disaster management. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in association with the Mumbai University, has decided to introduce this course, which will train you to deal with various types of disasters. The BMC will be the first corporation in the country to offer MBA course in disaster management, said civic officials.

“The three-year course, which will be part-time, is expected to start from the month of August. Any graduate can apply for this course that will be taught in English. While fees are yet to be decided, the course syllabus is getting ready. The batches will be held at BMC’s City institute of Disaster Management at Parel,” said Mahesh Narvekar, chief of BMC’s disaster management cell.

According to the civic officials, the MBA course in disaster management will train to deal with natural disasters like floods, earthquake, tsunami and man-made disasters like fire, blast, building collapse, etc. Lessons will be given on how to control and manage these calamities.

The faculty members will be from MU and the BMC. While the theory part will be taken care of by MU professors, students will be trained in practicals by disaster experts in the BMC.

Anil Karnik from the Garware Institute of Career Education and Development is designing the syllabus of the course.

Mr Karnik said, “Whenever there is a calamity, there has to be proper co-ordination among all agencies to deal with it effectively. The management component and mechanism will be incorporated into the course.”

According to a civic officials, the BMC plans to tie up with business management, corporates, government institutes etc to provide jobs to students once the course is complete.
