It has now come to light that Peter Mukerjea had approached the joint commissioner of police, law and order, Deven Bharti back in 2012 to seek help to ‘trace’ Sheena Bora. Peter, however, did not meet Mr Bharti in person, but spoke over the phone requesting that he ‘trace’ Sheena from her mobile number, which he knew would be switched off.
The Asian Age was the first one to report on how Peter was trying to locate Sheena while he kept lying to Rahul that he had spoken with her, reiterating Indrani’s lie that her daughter was well settled in the United States.
Speaking to The Asian Age on Tuesday Mr Bharti said, “I had received a call from him and I had asked an officer to look into it. But just a day later I was told that Sheena has been traced.” Mr Bharti’s statements have been recorded in this regard by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A police source privy to the investigation said, “This could be a ploy made by Peter and Indrani to create the alibi that they too were trying to trace Sheena. Peter then told Rahul that they had taken the help of the police to trace her and she is safe in the United States.”
The CBI, after arresting Peter in the murder case, noted in its remand copy that he was trying to trace the location of Sheena and wanted to see her call data records (CDR) after she went missing suddenly.
The CBI found this point suspicious as it was armed with a phone recording made by Rahul while speaking with his father Peter. Peter said to Rahul that Sheena was alive and he spoke with her and that she is in US.
Vidhie Mukerjea, daughter of Indrani and Peter, has told CBI that when she tried to contact Sheena after her disappearance in April 2012, she received a reply but from a new email id in Sheena’s name.
This may bolster the CBI’s case that after murdering Sheena in April 2012 and disposing of her body, Indrani used to send emails or text messages in her name.
Vidhie, whose statement was recorded by the agency after it took over the case, also said that whenever she asked Indrani about Sheena’s whereabouts, Indrani used to get angry. Indrani told her that Sheena had married a diamond merchant in the United States, according to Vidhie.
“In 2009, Sheena started living with us in Mumbai. Then she was introduced to me as my mother’s sister. At the same time, I came to know that Sheena and Rahul (Peter’s son from an earlier marriage) were having an affair. Due to this, Peter and Indrani used to quarrel a lot. My mother dislikes Rahul,” Vidhie told the CBI.
“During 2009-2010, I came to know that Sheena was my mother’s daughter as communicated by Rahul to my father Peter. I enquired with my mother and she shouted, saying that Rahul was lying as he wanted Peter to divorce her,” Vidhi said.
