Mumbai crime branch officers have conducted a search at the house of Kalyan resident Rizwan Ilyas Khan, who is accused of being an ISIS sympathiser, where they found documents related to conversion and some bail bonds. A police team will soon conduct a search at the residence of Aarshi Qureshi, a Navi Mumbai resident who worked as the guest relations manager with Islamic Research Foundation, which is founded by televangelist Zakir Naik.
Khan and Qureshi were arrested by the Kerala police last month on the complaint of Abdul Majid Abdul Kader, who claimed they had radicalised his son Ashfaque into joining ISIS. The crime branch officers are investigation why Qureshi kept so many bail bonds at his house. A police official said, “When questioned about them, he didn’t offer any explanation. We have seized the documents and are scrutinising them.”
Officials suspect they have formed a theory about the accused, Kerala-based Salafi preacher Mohammad Haneef and Rasheed Abdullah, who had allegedly been in contact with ISIS personnel. Haneef and Abdullah used to allegedly radicalise people, which was when Khan came into the picture. Khan used to travel to Kerala to convert people from Tamil Nadu and Kerala and officials have found some documents related to the same. Qureshi, the guest manager of IRF, would help them out financially.
The police asked Qureshi about Ashfaque but the former denied meeting the youth.
