Police foil attempt to help MCOCA accused escape jail

The Sinnar police said the incident occurred on Saturday evening in Sinnar tehsil of Nashik on the Nashik-Pune Road. The alertness of the police helped avert a jailbreak, when they radioed for reinforcements. Senior police inspector Rajesh Shingte said on Sunday that nine MCOCA accused from Ahmednagar district were lodged in Nashik Central Prison.
The police had to take them to Kopargaon court for hearings. A team from Ahmednagar comprising API Vithal Pund and six policemen had taken the nine accused to Kopargaon for hearing and were returning to Nashik. In the evening, near Puntamba four motorcycles and a Tavera SUV without registration plates began following them.
Meanwhile, the accused demanded the police stop the vehicle so that they could attend nature’s call. The police immediately radioed for reinforcements and kept the vehicle moving. The accused began swearing and quarrelling with the police to stop the vehicle. The police had radioed for help to Ahmednagar control and police all over were alerted. The green SUV and motorcycles continued to follow the police till Wavi village in Nashik district and then pulled back.
