You can now eschew the queue for a ticket at the country’s largest aquarium with the Taraporewala Aquarium starting an online booking service. The aquarium has launched the service in collaboration with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), and will begin Wednesday.
Officials confirmed that the developers gave a demo of the software and the booking service on Tuesday. While the aquarium recently added two new attractions, sea horses and sea snakes, the online ticketing service is the next step to cash in on the summer season, which apparently draws huge crowds and consequently long queues.
Madhukar Gaikwad, fisheries commissioner and in-charge of the aquarium, said it had been noticed that there were long queues last summer and so they had decided to come up with the online service. “Tourists coming for the Mumbai darshan packages and visiting numerous other spots in the city would easily be able to book the tickets slot wise through the website. At the same time, even others would be able to visit the website and book tickets. It would help in crowd management, this busy summer season,” said Mr Gaikwad.
Around 200 people will be able to book the tickets in advance according to the availability. The officials have created hourly slots for the bookings so that the people can schedule their visit accordingly.
