Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is collecting rent of '3,000 instead of the actual rent of '500 from the 56 tenants residing in the transit camp at Sewri provided by MHADA.

The tenants, who are directly associated with MHADA for redeveloping their building according to the rent structure of MHADA, are supposed to pay the rent amount of '500 monthly to MHADA.

But tenants of transit camp in Sewri alleged they are charged '3,000 as monthly rent.

Manoj Sawant (34), a tenant at the transit camp, said, “It is just another way to harass the tenants residing here. The actual rent for legal tenants residing in transit camps is by rule supposed to be '500 but we are being charged '3,000,” he said.

Sumant Bhange, chief executive officer, MHADA, said, “I have ordered an enquiry to the concerned department and I am expecting a reply on the same.”
