The body of a man, apparently a trekker, was found in a desolate spot on a hill in Talasari, Palghar on Tuesday night. The body has not been identified yet but the Talasari police has registered a case of accidental death. They however, suspect that the trekker could have been murdered. The post-mortem report is awaited and fresh sections of the IPC would be added once the result is out.

The body of the deceased was found on the top of Barad Hills, famous for trekking in Talasari. He was around 28-year-old and was discovered by locals who brought the body down and informed the police. Commenting on the case, a senior police officer from Talasari police station said, “The body bore injuries on the head and was foaming at the mouth and so we are not ruling out foul play. It has been sent for post-mortem and we are waiting for the result.”

The police also suspects that the deceased may have had company while trekking as it is dangerous for people to climb the hills all by themselves. “It is strange that the deceased’s fellow mates left him to die and did not even report the incident to us,” said the senior inspector. The police is now looking into the people who have been known to have climbed the hills recently and are absconding.

The hill is known as an ancient one and is a favourite among adventure lovers who usually trek from Dahanu, Talasari and Palghar. Trekkers from Mumbai are also known to frequent the area. The area also has several deep, rainwater-fed pools.
