Two-accused gold snatchers held in Chembur; both minors
The Chembur police arrested two accused who have snatched eight gold chains in a day for celebrating girl friend’s birthday of one of the accused.
The Chembur police arrested two accused who have snatched eight gold chains in a day for celebrating girl friend’s birthday of one of the accused. Police was able to nab only two accused among three of them. According to officials, there are many cases registered against them in different police stations of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.
According to police officials the accused had planned on 5 June for robbery. The accused in the morning snatched gold Mangalsutra worth rupees 80 thousand of a 62-year-old woman who was on her morning walk near Sadhu Gargen. They didn’t stop there later a 48-year-old lady was going to near by hospital for some treatment when these people attacked on her. Third time during afternoon they snatched chain of a girl near Matunga station.
Chembur police SPI Sandip Dal said, “This group of three youngsters snatched eight chains in one day in all over Mumbai and later in Navi Mumbai. We made a team to trace the accused. Through some of CCTV cameras we got their footages and we sent it across our sources. We confirmed with the two ladies from our area who have lost their gold chains. Subsequently, one of the women recognised the accused.”
Officials got information that the accused fled to Kalyan near Ambivli area, so the officers laid a trap on Monday night and arrested two-accused among three of them. All of them are minor.
PSI Sandip Sonavalkar said, “We arrested them and during interrogation they revealed that on June 6 there was birthday of third partner’s girlfriend. So he wanted to give diamond ring or some expensive gift to her therefore they had planned to snatch golden chains on that day. Previously, they have snatched more than 50 gold chains from all across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane area. We are searching for their third friend who is currently outing along with his girlfriend. Soon we will arrest him too.”
