Youth held for attempting to kidnap minor
The Dongri police recently arrested a 21-year-old youth who allegedly tried kidnap a 13-year-old girl in Dongri area of south Mumbai recently.
The Dongri police recently arrested a 21-year-old youth who allegedly tried kidnap a 13-year-old girl in Dongri area of south Mumbai recently. The accused was caught after the girl started screaming, alerting members of the locality.
The police said the accused, Liyakat Noor Mohammad is a labourer. He is was caught by members of the locality before he could flee but his aide who was present at the spot managed to escape.
According to the Dongri police, the incident occurred on January 1 around 3 pm in the Memonpada area. The girl had attended a madrassa and was returning home when the incident occurred. The accused put his hands on the girl’s mouth and tried to stifle her screams but she somehow she managed to raise an alarm, which alerted the locals.
A FIR has been registered under section 354 (Physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint.), 363 (kidnapping), 114 (Abettor present when offence is committed) and 34 (common intention) of IPC and section 8 (sexual assault) of POCSO. The accused was produced before a magistrate’s court and sent to judicial custody.
