As the music industry readies for its biggest awards night — the 2016 Grammys — there’s been quite a lot of speculation over who will take home the golden prize. Musicians here too have their favourites — the ones they will be rooting for loudest when the Grammy Awards show is telecast here early on Tuesday morning. From Ed Sheeran to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and Skrillex to Lady Gaga’s planned tribute for David Bowie — here’s a look at the the artistes who’re inviting the loudest cheers:
Siddharth Mahadevan: I am looking forward to performances by Justin Bieber and Skrillex. They are so talented; I don’t want to miss out on a single minute of their performances. It will also be a delight to watch Lady Gaga’s tribute to David Bowie. I am totally cheering on Uptown Funk and Thinking Out Loud and I am hoping these songs win this year.
Aditya Narayan: The Grammys are my favourite awards. The artistes I’m rooting for this year would be Adele, Bruno Mars, Bjork and Maroon 5. Mark Ronson’s album was great, as was The Weeknd’s. I also really admire Taylor Swift for her consistency. The performances by John Mayer, Usher, Pharell Williams, Kanye West, John Legend, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Coldplay, Beyoncé & Sam Smith are what I’m looking forward to the most!
Shibani Kashyap: I am actually hoping that Taylor Swift wins a few Grammys. Her music is very country/Western, and I like such songs. Then there’s Marc Ronson and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk — I think this song had the perfect beat, teamed with a perfect video. Chris Stapleton has bagged a nod for the Best Country Album and he is a force to be reckoned with. As for the performances, I am looking forward to Adele Taylor Swift’s acts.
Aditi Singh Sharma: Out of all the nominated artistes, I have been following Maroon 5 and The Weeknd’s music most. I love the songs that they have put out. I also love Bruno and Ed Sheeran. So I pretty much want one of them to win. The performance that I am looking forward to is Justin Bieber and Skrillex’s Where Are You Now. I absolutely love Justin’s songs this year. Also I am looking forward to Lady Gaga’s performance where she is giving a tribute to David Bowie.
Luke Kenny: Being a music aficionado and follower, it’s needless to say that the Grammy has always been one of my most awaited events of the year. This time, there are some fantastic artistes up for various nominations across categories. Most of the mentioned names have released superb music this year that has resonated with the audiences. I believe this has been the year of Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson...and while the others are equally strong, the toss up should be between these two fine songwriters.
This year has sadly seen the demise of many great, iconic musicians like Lemmy Kilmister, Glenn Frey and the magical David Bowie, so apart form the other performances, I am looking forward to the various tributes that will be paid to these musicians by artistes such as Lady Gaga, Jackson Browne, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp.
