Beauty pageant winner Ruhi Singh made her first big screen foray with Nisha Pahuja’s documentary The World Before Her. Then, in 2015, she was seen in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls. Apart from her cinematic ventures, however, Ruhi has also served as an ambassador for peace and humanity for the UN. Up next is a Tamil film, and a starring role in Ishq Forever. When she isn’t working, Ruhi loves to have her huge headphones on, listening to music with the volume turned on high. In a chat with us, she discusses her eclectic musical tastes and more.

Song on repeat on my iPod: Can’t Feel My Face by The Weekend

If I had to put together a ‘soundtrack’ for my life, the five songs on it would be: I wouldn’t choose five particular songs, but rather bands that represented different phases in my life. I grew up listening to Eminem, Linkin Park and RHCP Then there was a Shakira, Beyoncé and Gwen Stefani phase. There was also an Akcent (and other similar music) phase. Now I am listening to a band called XX and love them!

What I listen to when: I’m happy and upbeat: Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars I’m really low: The Hills by The Weekend I’m working out: How Deep Is Your Love by Calvin Harris

Music I loved as a child/teen that I’m now embarrassed by: Yeah, I used to do all these funny raps and listen to some really weird rock bands which made me feel like a sad rebel and a victim of the education system! It was funny.

I’d describe my taste in music as: Experimental. I listen to anything which sounds good and has meaning.

If I could have one band in the world/a musician perform a private concert for me, it would have to be: Michael Jackson. Sadly he is no more so my dream of seeing him perform will never come true. As of now, I would love to have Nick Jonas do a special performance for me! The only reason being — he’s hot!

And the one live act I would love to see at least once in my life: A performance by Madonna. She is a true legend.
