After an impactful stint as a judge in The Voice India, Mika Singh is poised for a repeat, this time in singing reality show Saregamapa. This is the first time Mika has come aboard for this show. We hear that with his words of encouragement Mika has already found a place in the hearts of the contestants. Point that out to him and he smiles and says, “The kids are so talented and they have been singing exceedingly well. Some of them have made us speechless with their performances. We have changed the format a little now. Along with judging we will also be mentoring them. Most of them come from small cities and towns and know nothing besides singing. It’s our responsibility to make them feel confident so that they don’t get scared. We will be teaching them how to sing in a studio atmosphere, and that will give them a hands on experience.”

With big actors like Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor successfully crooning songs in their films, Bollywood is witnessing a new trend of actors turning singers. Do established singers need to worry “Not at all”, insists Mika. “Music is huge thing. Every person who wants to sing, is welcome to sing. It doesn’t pose a threat to anyone. Look at Ankit Tiwari and Arijit Singh — they are singing so well. Can anyone replace that magic No, right It’s a good thing that actors are trying their hand at singing but at the end of the day, we are professional singers and have dedicated our lives to music. We are not that easy to replace.”

Mika may have belted out numerous Bollywood chartbusters, but the singer says that his best work always comes out for Salman Khan. Is that a coincidence or a bias, we ask. “I have not sung many songs for Salman but somehow whenever I sing for him, the song becomes a huge hit. People think I am biased towards him but that’s really not the case. In fact, I think when I sing for Salman bhai, hum dono ka luck sath deta hai.” he says with a smile.
