Girl creates UK record by catching biggest goldfish ever recorded in country
Lois Chilvers catches biggest goldfish ever recorded in the UK weighing a whopping 2.4 kgs.
Lois Chilvers, a ten-year-old girl from the UK managed to nab the biggest goldfish ever recorded in the country.
The girl was spending the day fishing with her father, Gary, when she snared the 2,4 kg goldfish.
The young girl has been fishing since the age of four and managed to catch the golden beauty at Chase lakes in Dagenham, Kent.
The particular species of fish, considered ornamental is usually kept in aquariums or garden ponds, and it seems that Lois’ catch must have outgrown its tanks and had been dumped into the lake by its former owner.
Her fish was 4ozs heavier than the previous biggest goldfish catch caught by schoolboy Nick Richards at a lake in Poole, Dorset, in 2010.
After weighing it and posing with pictures Lois released the 13ins long fish back into the water safe and well.
A member of the carp family, Goldfish was first kept as an ornamental pet in China more than 1,000 years ago.
They typically grow to between two and 18 inches and have been known to live for 40 years.
