Recently, at the billionaire Russian entrepreneur and founder of Digital Skies Technologies Yuri Milner’s home in Silicon Valley, a screening was held of the Indian mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan’s new biopic — The Man Who Knew Infinity, directed by Matthew Brown.
The who’s-who of America’s moneyed and powered super-elite came out of the screening, teary-eyed and in a sombre mood!
Says a source close to the film’s production, “Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google), Sergey Brin (founder of Google), Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook), Salman Khan (of the educational organisation Khan Academy), Brendan Iribe (Oculus Rift) and 50 other ‘one percenters’ of the Silicon Valley were at Yuri Milner’s house in Los Altos; one of the most expensive mansions in America! Yuri hosted a private screening and dinner for the guests, and all of them came out in tears.”
Some of those who saw this deeply moving film on the life of the mathematician, who journeyed from anonymity in his village in Tamil Nadu to everlasting fame in England, have pledged to form a foundation in Ramanujan’s name. They include Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai, to mention a few!
The Man Who Knew Infinity is based on the 1991 book of the same name by Robert Kanigel, and stars the likes of Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Devika Bhise, and Stephen Fry among others.
Receiving rave accolades for its accurate portrayal of Ramanjuan’s tale, the film is set to release across Indian screens this Friday, much to the excitement of viewers in TN.
