A man was arrested in South Delhi for allegedly trying to set five teenage girls on fire after confining them inside his flat. The accused was fed up after his wife and son was arrested by the police in Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh, in connection with a dowry harassment case filed by his daughter-in-law. He was shouting that girls “ruin the life of common people” and he will kill all five of them. But the police acted swiftly and rescued all the teenagers and arrested the accused. Speaking to this newspaper, South Delhi DCP B.S. Jaiswal said the accused, identified as Bharat Bhushan, a fourth grade employee, was arrested from his house in Neb Sarai area. “We broke the door and caught the accused before he could light the fire,” said the official.

A 55-year-old serving Major General of the Indian Army allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his house in Dwarka area of southwest Delhi. A senior police official said the incident took place on Friday evening at around 5 pm. The deceased was identified as Rajpal Singh, the additional director-general of National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Bihar and Jharkhand. The police said that his wife found him hanging from the ceiling and made a call to the PCR. “We have recovered a suicide note from the possession of the deceased. The suicide note says he was depressed due to which he took the extreme step,” said the police official. The Army will hold a Court of Inquest to find out the reason for his death.
