New Delhi/Srinagar: The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the country’s external intelligence agency, has told the Centre in a new report that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayyaba patron and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed is possibly in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He might be giving final shape to a fresh strategy, in which after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, hordes of mujahideen would be sent across the border into India. The RAW report also categorically states that there have been attempts by terror groups to carry out strikes against the “vulnerable off-duty men” of the security forces. Meanwhile, the Army has killed about a dozen militants among the group of 30 infiltrators who sneaked into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir through the Keran sector of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The remaining militants are holed up in the area and efforts are on to flush them out dead or alive. Army reinforcements have cordoned off the area and a firefight is under way, reports said. Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh, GOC of the Srinagar-based 15 (Chinar) Corps, said the major infiltration bid was foiled by engaging militants in firefights. He said a group of 30-35 militants had sneaked into the area, of which 10 to 12 had been killed. Despite attack talks on track Pressure mounted on PM Manmohan Singh to call off his Sunday meeting with Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York after terrorists killed 10 people including an army officer in twin “fidayeen” attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, but the Centremaintained that India will not go back on the scheduled talks. Condemning the attack Singh said, “This is one more in a series of provocations and barbaric actions by the enemies of peace Such attacks will not deter us and will not succeed in derailing our efforts to find a resolution to all problems through a process of dialogue,” he said. However, the BJP demanded that the Prime Minister should call off his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart.
