Chandrababu Naidu hits out at Centre

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam president Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday criticised the Central government for its failure to control the volatile situation in the state following the Congress Working Committee’s decision to carve out Telangana. Naidu sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s immediate intervention and requested him to visit Hyderabad. He also condemned the “indifferent attitude of the Government of India towards Telugu people who have been fighting for justice”. In a four-page letter to Dr Singh, Naidu criticised him for granting quick interviews to YSRC honorary president Y.S Vijayalakshmi and her delegation while denying similar audiences to him and his delegation over the years. “I urge upon you to break your classic silence, take a proactive role in resolving the concerns and do justice to all and restore peace and development in the state, keeping aside your partisan political conspiracy,” he wrote. Taking exception to the manner in which the PM allegedly showed bias towards the YSR Congress, Naidu reminded Dr Singh that he too had sought his intervention in a letter on August 9 to resolve concerns of Telugu people arising out of the CWC decision. “When a crisis affecting crores of Telugu people has to be resolved, the Prime Minister should have taken the initiative to visit Hyderabad and build rapprochement and bring resolution of the issue,” he stated, adding that though the agitation in Seemandhra was in its fourth week, no action had been taken to resolve it. “Was this the reward the Congress gave to the people of Andhra Pradesh for their contribution to national progress,” Naidu asked. Naidu also stated that there was a vertical division among employees working in the Secretariat and other government offices due to the Congress and pointed out that the agitation by employees was leading to a tense situation and the working environment had been totally spoiled and might deteriorate further.
