Noah built a giant ark to save the creatures on the earth, in the face of a natural disaster. But for four South Florida men, it has become more than just a biblical tale. Reniel Aguila, Rodolfo Almira, Osmar Oliva and Manuel Guerra have decided to follow in Noah’s footsteps. The four men plan to construct ‘The Hidden Ark’ a life-size replica of the original, built to the proportions described in the Holy Scriptures, on the outskirts of the populated city of Hialeah in Florida. And this means a 500-feet long ship-like vessel, made completely out of wood. The only difference between the ancient and modern ark will be the fact that this one isn’t being built in anticipation of a flood or calamity. The friends want to “revive this biblical episode differently and without the prophetic or destructive components of its predecessor.” Instead, they hope to spread the message of conservation of flora and fauna. Carolina Peralta of the Hidden Ark group told NBC Miami that they were “using Noah’s Ark to make a statement about helping animals and conserving our planet.” The Ark will serve as a zoo, theme park, as well as an animal shelter, operating with an on-site veterinary clinic. “Animals from the street, injured animals, abandoned animals, we will take them in,” Peralta said. However, ambitious as the project sounds, it’s still a long way from kick off. Magnificent plans require magnificent amount of money, don’t they And so far, the team has only managed to raise funds of $540 of the projected $1.5 million, with just 40 days to go. On completion, the ark promises to provide 24-hour surveillance of the animals on board with live online streaming, so that people may “see how animals live, evolve and interact all from the comfort of their own homes.”
