Ishrat supporters satisfied with CBI

Social workers and politicians from Mumbra, who had stood by the family of Ishrat Jahan after the fake encounter in Ahmedabad, have expressed satisfaction at the arrest of an IPS officer by the CBI.

Social workers and politicians from Mumbra, who had stood by the family of Ishrat Jahan after the fake encounter in Ahmedabad, have expressed satisfaction at the arrest of an IPS officer by the CBI. The CBI arrested IPS officer G.L. Singhal on Thursday, in connection with the case and searches were conducted at his residence and official premises. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad said that he was satisfied that the CBI had expedited the investigation process to bring the guilty to book. “The family had been fighting the stigma, embarrassment, insecurity and felt a justified sense of rage towards the government for murdering their daughter. The entire lot of officers, from the Gujarat police should be exposed. The family had been waiting for justice We are happy with the development. The public deserves to know the truth,” said Mr Awhad. Munna Sayyad, of the NGO My Mumbra Foundation also expressed satisfaction over the arrest and termed the arrest as a “step towards restoring faith in the country’s judiciary”. “Ishrat’s family had been waging a tireless battle for justice since 2004. Relentless court appearances, appeals and representations have finally paid off and the CBI has done a good job. The arrest has given us a ray of hope. The CBI should now target the entire Gujarat government machinery involved in the fake encounter,” he said.
