Delhi Horse Show from today

The 2013 edition of the Delhi Horse Show gets under way at the Nicholson Ranges in Delhi Cantt on Friday. The annual event, which attracts riders from virtually all age groups, first began in the pre-Independence era, and after a long break, is now in its 28th year.

The 2013 edition of the Delhi Horse Show gets under way at the Nicholson Ranges in Delhi Cantt on Friday. The annual event, which attracts riders from virtually all age groups, first began in the pre-Independence era, and after a long break, is now in its 28th year. Events at the DHS include dressage, standard and variant forms of show jumping, puissance, and fun gymkhana event for adults and children. Participants range from 3-year olds to some of the country’s top riders, and this year will witness 1,000 horses and 2,000 competitors battling for top honours. The final rounds as well as some of the most challenging competitions on the finale weekend – April 5 to 7. Modelled on the lines of the Dublin Horse Show, the Delhi Horse Show has participants from across the country, including Karnataka, Punjab and the North-East. Entries include those from the Army (President’s Bodyguard, 61st Cavalry, ASC, RVC, Northern Command, Eastern Command, IMA, NDA, Assam Rifles), police forces (Punjab Police, BSF, Delhi Police, MP Police, ITBP, Gujarat Police, Karnataka Police), academia (RIMC, Dehra Dun, Mayo College, Ajmer, Punjab Public School, Nabha, Kirpal Sagar Academy, Rahon, Delhi Public School, Panipat, Amity Riding Academy, Manav Kendra Gyan Mandir School), and civilian riding clubs (Shivalik Riding & Pony Club, Chandimandir, Tollygung Club, Kolkata, Children Riding Club, Woodstock Riding Club) and others.
