In a move that will provide swift medical treatment for Army troops guarding the Line of Control, the Armed Forces Medical Services has constructed an underground operation theatre at a location very close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said on Friday. Sources said the OT has been constructed just a few hundred yards from the Line of Control, the de-facto border with Pakistan. Sources said the OT has six beds where operations can be conducted simultaneously. Besides these, there are more beds for patients for both pre-operation and post-operation emergency care. “The facility is state-of-the-art. It was built as an underground facility recently to deal with any eventuality of shelling by the Pakistanis,” sources said. Sources said the air-conditioned facility was recently operationalised and is both “shell-proof and shock-proof”. Sources also said the facility can withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes.
