The Election Commission said Wednesday that elections to the Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 5. Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath said the polls will be in a single phase, and counting will be on May 8. The model code comes into force “with immediate effect”, he said at a press conference here. The election notification will be issued on April 4, and the last date for filing nominations is April 17. Scrutiny will be over the next day, and April 20 is the last date for withdrawals.
