The Maharashtra government spent '9,573 on 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab’s funeral in Pune’s Yerwada Jail, which includes '33.75 on food and '169 on clothes. Since the 2008 attack the home department claims to have incurred an expenditure of over '30 crores. However, the government for the second time has refused to share his post-mortem and mercy petition documents. Right to Information activist Anil Galgali had filed an application seeking details about the terrorist, but the home department only gave out expenditure figures and rejecting rest of the demands by the applicant on post-mortem and mercy petition. Between November 20 and 21, that is starting from shifting the Kasab from Arthur Road Jail to Yerwada, the authorities incurred an expenditure of '11,572 of his security. During these two days, only '33.75 was spent on food and '169 on clothes. He was hanged to death on November 21 and buried inside the prison soon after. According to RTI reply, the home department spent '6,76,49,676.82 on food, security, hospitalization, medicines, clothes, constructions, funeral and other expenses, leaving aside Indo-Tibet Border Police bills of over '23 crore. As per the information available, '21,68,62,041 was spent on ITBP security provided by the central government. The home department does not have details of ITBP bills for a period of eight months. Right from the moment of his arrest on the fateful night till his death a sum of '43,417.67 was spent on food. Similarly, having special cell for him inside the Arthur Road Jail was at a price tag of '5,25,16,542 back in the year 2009. If the home department is to be believed then they did not spent a penny on his medicines and clothes in 2008, am information which Mr Galgali is not ready to believe. Likewise, the home department or Yerwada prison did not incur any outlay to erect or repair the gallows.
