ISRO ready for 2022 mission, exhibits space suit and crew model

The sixth edition of Bengaluru Space Expo saw ISRO showcasing two space suits, a crew model and crew escape model.

ISRO is preparing to send three astronauts on a five to seven days space journey which will involve rotating around the earth, 400km away from the land and through the orbit. While the commencement of the journey is still around four years away, the company has already developed the space suit, crew model and crew escape model.

The sixth edition of Bengaluru Space Expo saw ISRO showcasing two space suits, a crew model and crew escape model. The orange coloured suit is designed to carry one oxygen cylinder with enough air to last for 60 minutes. Meanwhile, the space agency displayed only two units of the suit while three astronauts will be leaving for the mission.

The crew model capsule showcased at the event is made up of thermal shield in order to protect in-house astronauts from the outer heat. Reportedly, it will catch fire while returning back into the earth’s atmosphere and the members inside will be able to see it while staying unhurt. In fact, while this happens, the inner temperature will be maintained at 24 degree Celsius. The organisation has already tested a prototype of the represented crew model.

The astronauts will be carrying out tests on microgravity and will be rotating the earth every 90 minutes. For reaching the 400km high orbit, the capsule is estimated to take around 16 minutes while it will drop down in the Arabian sea in 36 minutes from space. CNES, a Fremch space agency, have lent helping hand to assist ISRO with ‘space medicine, astronaut health monitoring, life support, radiation protection, space debris protection and personal hygiene system.’
