SpaceX and Boeing Co are the two main contractors selected under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's commercial crew program to send US astronauts to space as soon as 2019, using their Dragon and Starliner spacecraft respectively.

NASA is heading to celebrate Earth Day 2019 in a new way. The space agency has launched a new social media event to see how others (non-scientists or astronauts) see the Earth.

As part of the #PictureEarth event on April 22, 2019, which marks Earth Day, NASA is inviting everyone to post a close-up photo of their favourite natural features of the planet, such as crashing waves, ancient trees, blooming flowers, or stunning sunsets.

NASA explains on the official blog that users can upload the photo on April 22 and use the hashtag #PictureEarth. If you are participating, be sure to include the location where the photo was taken in the description across social media channels including Instagram, Twitter, and NASA’s Earth Facebook event page.

NASA will select the best photos from around the world to showcase them later in videos and composite images. The agency will also share some of the most stunning images of Earth from space.
