London: English cricketers wanting to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), might have to a decision to make after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) could deduct £3,500 per day from their contracts if they take part in the 2017 edition.

According to The Telegraph, a lot of franchises have shown an interest in signing all-rounder Ben Stokes but he may lose more than £100,000 if the deal does go through.

A bidding war is set to ensue over Stokes with some sources going as far as saying that Virat Kohli has told the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) management to bring out the cash register to sign the Englishman.

The ECB's actions though should not come as that much of a surprise as they have had success in preventing their cricketers from playing in the IPL in the past by imposing deductions.

If Stokes does go through with his plan of playing in the IPL, the deductions will start from the day his IPL duty begins. His international team-mates Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy have also placed their names in the auction list. Jos Buttler and Sam Billings were retained by Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils respectively.

The 2017 IPL edition is slated to begin on April 5.
