New Delhi: In-form Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer, in line for a maiden India cap in the T20 series against New Zealand that gets under way at the Kotla here on Wednesday, said his hundred for India A against South Africa A during a recent tri-series had helped him gain focus on converting good starts.

The 22-year-old, called up to the 16-strong India squad for the three-match series on the basis of strong performances in domestic and IPL games, added that he was comfortable batting at any spot in the senior team lineup. “I think I am very flexible. I don’t mind batting at any number. Even in the Indian Premier League this year, I was shuffled from number four to number three. It did not really matter to as I am comfortable,” Iyer said.

“Whatever number I bat, if I get to play the game, I will see to it that I give my best.”

Recalling the South Africa tour, where he had got runs but not converted starts into three figures, Iyer said, “It was very helpful for me. I was going through a good patch, got good starts, but I was not able to convert them into big knocks till the final.

“It was a big game, and the knock was really satisfying that it came through,” he said.
