The legendary cricketer who grew up playing cricket at the club, inaugurated the Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar pavilion on Thursday alongwith his brother Ajit.

MIG Cricket Club known as ‘The Cradle of Cricket’ in Bandra East has named its pavilion as Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar Pavilion. Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar himself inaugurated the pavilion in the morning on Thursday.

Sachin has very fond memories of the club. He played his initial cricket there and continued practicing there during his 24-year-long international career. His son, Arjun Tendulkar, a budding left arm seamer, plays for the MIG club. Sachin also conducts summer cricket coaching camp ‘Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy (TMGA)’ at the venue alongwith DY Patil cricket stadium in Nerul.

MIG Cricket Club conducts three tournaments approved by the Mumbai Cricket Association, namely Comrade Shield, Purshottam Shield and Mahim Dadar Shield.  A stand at iconic Wankhede Stadium is already named after the legendary cricketer where he played his 200th and final Test match in November 2013.

Sachin donated his India Test jersey that he wore for the 200th Test match, that will now adorn the pavilion. During an interaction at this inaugural ceremony, an overwhelmed Sachin said, “MIG CC is my home ground and I have grown up playing cricket here. I have fond memories of this institution. MIG CC has incredible facilities and it’s a dream for many cricketers to play here,” said the legendary cricketer.

Sachin’s elder brother, the soft spoken Ajit Tendulkar was humbled by the gesture of MIG CC to name the pavilion, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, as it includes the name of their father and he sincerely thanked the club management for the same on behalf of the Tendulkar family.

The Managing Committee members of MIG ensured to create the ambience of Sachin’s choice to name the pavilion after him. The main reason behind the naming of the pavilion was to inspire a young generation of cricketers coming through the ranks of this club and the city.

The event on Thursday morning was well attended by budding cricketers, fans and members of the club.

“It was a long cherished dream of the members to name the pavilion after Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. It is a dream come true,” Nikunj Vyas, the Honorary General Secretary of MIG CC said. “This is the only facility at MIG CC which bears name of any person per se. All the members feel proud about the same,” Vyas added.

Sanjeev Patki, the Honorary Chairman of MIG CC said, “This is a milestone in the history of our prestigious club. Such traditions help all of us come together and celebrate the success of Sachin Tendulkar.”
