Shikhar Dhawan to return to India on Sunday

Virat Kohli-led India, who won the three-match Test series 3-0, are currently a win away from clean sweeping the hosts 5-0 in the ODI series.

Colombo: Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday announced that India opener Shikhar Dhawan will leave Sri Lanka tour midway and will return to India on Sunday to be with his ailing mother.

The southpaw was one of India’s standout performers in the Sri Lanka tour. The Indian cricket board also decided not to send any replacement for Dhawan.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday announced that Team India opener Mr. Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India on Sunday to see his ailing mother,” said BCCI in a media release.

“Mr Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment,” the release added.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for the 5th ODI and the only T20I, scheduled on September 3rd and 6th respectively in Colombo.”

The fifth and final ODI of the series will be played on Sunday in Colombo.

The only T20I of the tour will be played in Colombo on Wednesday.
