New Delhi: Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist on Thursday said that India, who is winning at home, also need to win overseas to prove their potential in cricket community.

Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of an event, Gilchrist said, "They (India) play really well in their home conditions. But we can judge them if they win away. The challenge for India is to go abroad and win Test matches overseas, to win One Day Internationals (ODIs) there."

India has poor winning record abroad. They are yet to win a Test series in Australia and South Africa.

Talking about the upcoming 2019 World Cup, the 45-year-old left hand batsman said that it would be early to say that India has potential to win the Cup.

"They have always been competitive team in World Cup formats but they have to be consistent in playing," he said.

Gilchrist also remembered veteran bowler Ashish Nehra, who bid adieu to all forms of cricket after bowling his last ball in the first of three T20I series against New Zealand, where India thrashed the Kiwis by 53 runs.

"Ashish was a wonderful competitor. He is a player one remembers with great fondness. He was a very skilful bowler and a terrific opponent," the Australian said.

The Aussie stumper also hailed India  cricket team captain Virat Kohli and said he has a young, energetic brigade who are responding to him quite well.
