Mumbai: Maharashtra Government will felicitate T20 World Cup winning Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and other team members including Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Friday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is also scheduled to meet these players at the State Legislature on this occasion.

Rahul Narwekar, speaker of the state Vidhan Sabha, announced on Thursday that four Mumbai players participating in the Indian T20 World Cup team would be honoured at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan complex in Mumbai.

The decision to honor these players was suggested by Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik, who is also a member of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Sarnaik, in his address, emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating Sharma, Yadav, Dube and Jaiswal are from Mumbai and it is a proud moment for Mumbaikars. He further urged the Maharashtra government to honor these players in the same manner as the Indian Cricket team players were felicitated after winning the World Cup in 2007 and 2011.

“Maharashtra government needs to felicitate and duly honour these players in the same manner after Indian Cricket team players were felicitated tied after winning the World Cup in 2007 and 2011. CM Shinde should honour these players for their stellar performance,” he said.

Sarnaik further added that he will request the Speaker for the attendance of all legislators during the felicitation function.
Sarnaik’s suggestion was promptly accepted by Narwekar. “Four Mumbai players participating in the T20 World Cup cricket team would be honored on Friday at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan complex. The invitations have been sent to these players who will also meet the CM Eknath Shinde,” said the speaker.
Both the houses of Maharashtra Legislature have already passed resolutions congratulating the Indian Cricket Team for winning the ICC World Cup.

Indian cricket team ended an 11-year drought for an ICC trophy on June 29 after it won its second T20 world title in the ICC Men's World Cup tournament held at the West Indies and USA.
