ICC CWC'19: Ikram Ali Khil breaks Sachin Tendulkar's 27-year old record
Ikram became the youngest player to score 80 runs in a World Cup match, beating Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar's record set 27 years ago.
Mumbai: Although Afghanistan are not having a great tournament at the World Cup 2019, they are considered by many, including Indian skipper Virat Kohli to be a growing team. That is certainly true when it comes to Afghanistan’s young batting talent, Ikram Ali Khli.
In Thursday’s match against West Indies, Afghanistan’s wicket keeper batsman Ikram Ali Khil broke a record set by Sachin Tendulkar 27 years ago in a a World Cup match against Zimbabwe.
Sachin had scored 81 runs at the age of 18 years and 318 days. Ikram scored 80 against West Indies at the age of 18 years and 278 days, becoming the youngest player to score 80 runs in a World Cup match.
"I'm very proud to have broken the record of a legend like Tendulkar. It makes me very happy," Khil said as quoted on cricketworldcup.com.
Khil has made nine appearances for the national side so far. He arrived at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup as a replacement for batsman Mohammad Shahzad. He has scored 148 runs at an average of 24.67.
The record-setting knock of 86 runs against West Indies on Thursday was his best score in an ODI match so far.
