ICC CWC'19: Why Dhoni has been sporting multiple bat logos recently
The player has so far been spotted sporting bats from at least three brands.
Mumbai: Indian wicket keeper and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the center of many controversies and discussions at the World Cup 2019. After his Balidan badge controversy and his highly debated batting style in the match against England, people have noticed another peculiar fact about Dhoni at the tournament.
Dhoni was spotted with multiple bats featuring different logos. This is unlike most players who stick to one particular brand. The player has so far been spotted sporting bats from at least three brands.
Arun Pandey, Dhoni’s manager revealed that Dhoni is doing this not for any kind fo promotion purposes but to offer a thanking gesture to the various brands he has worked with throughout his cricketing career.
“It’s a fact that he has been using different bats with different brandings, but he is not charging them. He wants to say thanks to them for helping in various stages of his career.” Said Pandey to Mumbai Mirror.
“Dhoni has a big heart. He does not need money, he has enough of it, and he is using those bats as a goodwill gesture. BAS was with him from the beginning and SG also was very helpful to him,” added Pandey.
Cricketers usually charge bat sponsors Rs 4-5 crore annually. MS Dhoni however, doesn’t have a bat sponsor currently after his last deal with Spartan Sports faced legal issues.
Fans have related the gesture along with others, like Dhoni asking for the match ball after a game, as a sign of the player’s soon-to-come retirement decision.
