Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) asked fans to comment on Steve Smith's performance in the first Test of Ashes 2019. Smith achieved the feat of becoming the fifth Australian batsman to score a hundred in both innings of an Ashes Test.
While most fans lauded Smith's batting display, England pacer Stuart Broad had a dissimilar reaction to the post.
The 33-year-old pacer left an angry emoticon on the post, highlighting how Smith may have single-handedly snatched the victory from the hands of England.
Smith's heroics in the second innings helped Australia gain a signifanct lead of 397 runs. He also surpassed Indian skipper Virat Kohli to become the second-fastest batsman to score 25 Test centuries.
Smith scored his 24th Test century in 118 innings and became the second fastest batsman to do so. Only Donald Bradman got his 24th century in fewer innings (66). Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar took 123 and 125 innings respectively.
In the first innings, Australia scored 284 runs whereas England scored 374 runs, gaining a lead of 90 runs. But in the second innings, Aussies managed to post 497-7 to give England a target of 398 runs. Australia defeated England by 251 runs in the first Test match of the Ashes on Monday at Edgbaston.
