Younis Khan to retire after Windies Tests

Islamabad: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan on Saturday announced his retirement from international cricket days after skipper Misbah-ul-Haq decided to quit.

Addressing a news conference in Karachi, Khan said the upcoming Test series against the West Indies would be his last.

“Every player has to retire one day,” he said.

Misbah has also announced that he will end his career after the West Indies series.

Khan added: “Excellent cricketers bid adieu to the game but the show went on. I will continue to serve Pakistan after my retirement.”

He said the death of former Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer in 2007 was one of the saddest moments of his careers.

Younis led Pakistan to their only World Twenty20 in 2009.

Born in Mardan, Khan represented Pakistan along with other county and club teams including Nottinghamshire, Peshawar Cricket Association, Rajasthan Royals, South Australia, Surrey, Warwickshire and Yorkshire.

In his Test career, Khan played 115 matches and scored 9,977 runs, hitting 34 centuries and 32 half-centuries, also claiming nine wickets.

He remains the only cricketer to score century in every Test playing nation.

The veteran also played 265 One-Dayers, scoring 7,249 runs, including seven tons and 48 fifties, also taking three wickets.

The former T20 captain made 442 runs in 25 Twenty20 international matches, also bagging three wickets in a respectable career.
