Mumbai: India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane could miss the upcoming ODI and T20I series against England. Rahane was ruled out of the last two Tests against England due to a finger injury. Manish Pandey was called to the squad as a replacement.

According to a report in Times of India, the batsman has been told that his finger would take at least a month to heal.

The batsman suffered an avulsion fracture on his right index finger after getting hit by a bouncer during the practice session for the Mumbai Test.

In Rahane’s absence, KL Rahul is expected to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan as Rohit Sharma is also out injured. Sharma is out of the series due to a thigh injury he sustained during the fifth and final ODI against New Zealand at Vizag.

India will play three ODIs and three T20Is against England, with the first ODI beginning on January 15 next year.
