Fans on feet as MSD fires in last game as captain
The crowd had no doubt come to watch MS Dhoni lead any Indian side for the last time and watch him bat with Yuvraj Singh.
Mumbai: It was just a warm-up game for the England XI against India A, the atmosphere resembled that of a competitive international. The crowd had no doubt come to watch Mahendra Singh Dhoni lead any Indian side for the last time and watch him bat with Yuvraj Singh to recall their heydays.
India A batted first and chants of “Dhoni Dhoni”, much like the background score in the recent biopic on Dhoni erupted after every dismissal as crowd was anxious to watch him bat. The chants grew louder when Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed but it was comeback man Yuvraj who took the crease in the 29th over.
It was the same after the early dismissal of Mandeep Singh in the eighth over. Dhoni made his way to the middle in the 41st over after Ambati Rayudu returned immediately on reaching his hundred to join Yuvraj at the crease. One fan even made his way into the middle in the 46th over to touch the former skipper’s feet.
Dhoni didn’t disappoint with a 40-ball 68 that included eight boundaries and two sixes in the last over by Chris Woakes which yielded 23 runs as India A finished at 304/5.
