VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh back Gambhir amid pamphlet controversy; see tweets
AAP's Atishi while addressing media, claimed that pamphlets were being circulated with derogatory and casteist remarks against her.
New Delhi: Fellow cricketers have come forward in support of cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, vouching for his integrity and claiming that he can never talk ill about any woman.
Offspinner Harbhajan Singh and former batsman VVS Laxman lent support to the Bhartiya Janta Party’s candidate with both taking to Twitter on Friday to lend support to Gambhir after the AAP accused him of distributing offensive pamphlets against its candidate and his rival Atishi.
Singh said he was shocked to know about the incident and that Gambhir “is above all this”.
“I am shocked to note yesterday’s events involving @GautamGambhir. I know him well and he can never talk ill for any woman. Whether he wins or loses is another matter but the man is above all this,” Singh tweeted.

Gambhir is contesting from East Delhi parliamentary constituency which will go to polls on May 12.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi while addressing media in the national capital, claimed that pamphlets were being circulated with derogatory and casteist remarks against her.
However, Gambhir denied the allegation against him and since then tweeted numerous times, about the incident including a post where he wrote that he feels ashamed to have a Chief Minister like Arvind Kejriwal.
Gambhir also said if they proved the allegations against him, he will take retirement from politics.
