Watch: Pat Cummins stuns Joe Root with a ripper
Most importantly, Jos Buttler regained his form and notched up 64 not out to bring England to 271/8.
Mumbai: En route to England’s 271, Joe Root and Jos Buttler turned out to be the anchors that steadied the ship for England after the duo scored 57 and 64 respectively to keep England in the game. Most importantly, Jos Buttler regained his form and notched up 64 not out to bring England to 271/8.
However, Joe Root, who scored a vital knock of 57, was finally sent back to the pavilion after Australian pacer Pat Cummins bowled a ripper to get rid of England skipper Root who scored his 45th Test fifty after being dropped thrice in the game.
Nevertheless, the manner in which Root got out was simply astonishing to see. Root, who was well set, was bowled by a ripper from Cummins. Cummins bowled a ripper of a ball which went on to hit the off-stump.
The England skipper thought that the delivery off Pat Cummins would go away from his off-stump, but to Root’s surprise, the ball came back in and hit the off-stump to remove the set batsman. The deliver was similar to the one that bowled Root during the second innings in the fourth Ashes Test.
