CHENNAI: England women’s cricket star Danielle Wyatt made headlines when she proposed to Virat Kohli on Twitter in 2014. She will be part of England squad that will take on India and Australia in a T20 tri-series later this month. And Danielle has got a secret weapon to unleash when she tours India.

“I’m using Virat Kohli’s bat now,” Danielle was quoted as saying on espncricinfo.com

According to the report, the bat was a gift, given when the two met at Derby during India’s tour of England in 2014, after Danielle had taken to twitter with a proposal: “Kholi (sic) marry me!”

“Ten minutes later (posting that tweet). I picked my phone up and I’ve got 1000s of likes and retweets, it’s all over Indian news, they’re emailing my dad at home. When we met, he said to me: ‘You can’t do things like that on Twitter! They take things seriously!’ I was like, ‘okay. Sorry!’,” Danielle said.

Danielle will be using the willow that Kohli gifted when she opens the innings for England in the tri-series. And she described the bat as a “beast.”

“The bat I hit the century (against Australia last November) with broke not long ago. So now I’ll be using Virat’s.”

Danielle is eager to cement her position as opener in England XI and hopes the India tour will help achieve it. “Before, as long as I was playing, I wasn’t that bothered about where I was batting. Maybe I should have been a bit more selfish. Now is my chance to nail down that opening spot.”
