Kapil Dev to boost Navi Mumbai Half Marathon participants today

Former Indian cricket team skipper Kapil Dev will flag off the third edition of the Tridhaatu Navi Mumbai Half Marathon (NMHM) today. The cricket legend unveiled the medals on Saturday in the presence of Norrie Williamson, Coach and Race Director, Balwinder Singh Sandhu and his team-mate during the ICC World Cup triumph in 1983, Dhananjay Sandu, Co-Founder and MD, Tridhaatu Realty and Siddharth Gupta – Founder and Director, Sports United.

“Running is the mother of all sports.  If you can run, you can do any sport,” Dev said on Saturday while boosting the athletes to not take much pressure.

“There is no pressure at all, it’s all about the love and passion you have for the game. You cannot benchmark healthy living. You have to decide what is right for you; do not copy someone else, be original and enjoy yourself,” he added.

Medals will be given to the first three winners in the two race categories. The Half Marathon run over a distance of 21.097 km  and The Future Generali 10K run  of 10 km.

The race will begin at 5:30 am from Odisha Bhawan near the CIDCO Exhibition Center, Vashi. The entire race route was measured by internationally acclaimed marathon coach Williamson. The Half Marathon route is the flat Palm Beach Road which is ideal for a marathon of this size and scale.

The CIDCO Centre where runners will assemble before start of the race will be the largest fully air conditioned assembly point in the country. All participants will get a bib with a timing chip attached which will help capture the timing across all points on the course, including the start and finish. According to the organisers, participants will receive an event jacket, event t-shirt, race bib, finisher’s medal, e-certificate and refreshments.
