Mumbai: Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team for a second successive term. Three-member Cricket Advisory Committee- Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy- made the announcement on Friday.

Shastri’s contract expired after India’s World Cup campaign but the BCCI handed him and his support staff 45-member extension.

Shastri pipped former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, Australian Tom Moody and former India teammates Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput to clinch the post. Indian skipper Virat Kohli had also backed Shastri's re-appointment as the head coach saying that he shares a great camaraderie with Shastri.
