Dubai: England’s destructive wicket-keeper batsman, Jos Butler has emphasised on the importance of playing brave and smart cricket to go far in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.
"It won't be a side that plays cautiously that wins the World Cup, even in knockout games, it will be a side that plays some brave cricket and smart cricket.” “If we [England] are at a crossroads, we've been going down the positive route," ICC quoted the 28-year-old, as saying, while talking about the team having maximum chances to win the world cup.
England has a really strong squad and the team is currently holding the number one position in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings. Naturally, the English team is coming up as the favourite of every prominent former player like Shane Warne, Sunil Gavaskar and Herschelle Gibbs.
The other benefit they are privileged with is that the World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by them, so they will try to make the most out of it.
Recently against West Indies, they posted their 400-plus total since the last World Cup, South Africa is the only other team to have managed such a high score in that period. Butler was the star of that record-breaking game; he scored 150 runs off just 77 balls.
The prime event is scheduled to start on May 30 where the hosts will compete with South Africa.
