Hyderabad: Kane Williamson’s (84)  effort went in vain as Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 runs in a thrilling Indian Premier League match on Sunday. The hosts lost Ricky Bhui early, but Williamson was in top-form as he top-scored in the innings, thereby filling in for Shikhar Dhawan’s absence.

Deepak Chahar had taken the first three wickets of Ricky Bhui, Manish Pandey and Deepak Hooda, after which Karn Sharma dismissed Shakib Al Hasan for 24.

However, a 79-run stand between Yusuf Pathan (45)  and Williamson had kept some hope for the hosts, but faltered in the end.

1st innings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted 181-3 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Sunday.

After the hosts won the toss and put the opposition to bat, CSK started on a good note but soon lost their openers Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson.

But Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina had other plans. The duo put on an game-changing hundred partnership to take the game away from Williamson and team.

Despite the loss of local boy Rayudu, Dhoni and Raina went big in the last few overs to steer the visitors to a satisfactory total.

CSK 146-3 after 17 overs:

WICKET! A bizarre end to Rayudu's fabulous knock. The duo complete a run and there's big miscommunication for the second one as Kaul fumbles with the ball at the non-strikers end.

CSK 137-2 after 16 overs:

100 partnership! The men in yellow have turned it around. Rayudu and Raina have upped the ante and the opposition bowlers are looking clueless now.

CSK 37-2 after 8 overs:

STUMPED! First ball wicket for Rashid. Umpire at square leg raises the finger. Flat delivery and the batsman leaps forward to sweep. Misses the turn and is unable to make the crease.

CSK 15-1 after 4 overs:

Preview: Three wins from four games and six points each against their name, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings will lock horns in a Southern derby of the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Sunday.

The Kane Williamson-led unit, who had started their IPL 2018 campaign with a hat-trick of wins, will be coming into this game following a defeat against Kings XI Punjab, which also witnessed Shikhar Dhawan getting retired hurt. MS Dhoni’s CSK, meanwhile, will be in a more upbeat mood following their comfortable win over Rajasthan Royals at their adopted home ground in Pune.

While for SRH their stronger suit is their bowling, with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan playing pivotal roles, CSK’s stronger suit has been their batting. With all the CSK batsmen, having at least one solid batting performance under their belt squaring off against SRH, who perhaps have the best bowling unit of IPL 2018, the tie at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium promises to be an enthralling affair for fans.
