Mumbai: Out of favour Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who was last seen during the 2019 semi-final defeat against New Zealand, has recently shared an experience on a talk show “Breakfast with Champions”.

During the show, he recapitulated an incident wherein he bumped into former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly during an intense match against Pakistan in the 2004 Champions Trophy.

The incident occurred on September 19, 2004, when India locked horns with Pakistan at Birmingham in a Group C match. On that day, India had to face Pakistan in a highly tense game, which required the Men in Blue to defeat the Men in Green in order advance the semis.

During the match after the fall of a wicket, substitute Karthik, who was carrying a lot of bottles, sprinted towards the team. The manner in which Karthik sprinted was so quick, that he couldn’t save himself from bumping into the former Indian Sourav Ganguly.

Revealing the incident, Karthik stated, “I was a substitute in that game and I had to carry drinks to the players. I was running towards the players to give them drinks and accidentally, I slipped and fell on Dada. He got frustrated and yelled, “Where do you get these players from, who is he?.”

Yuvraj Singh reveals the actual words

Recently, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who also took part in that game, after watching Karthik’s video, tweeted the exact statement told by Dada during that match.

Yuvraj replied, “dada exact words! Kaun hai re ye pagal ! kahan se pakad ke Latien hai in the middle of India vs Pak tense game!  @DineshKarthik your hilarious @ImRo45.”

However, Pakistan defeat India by 7 wickets after Mohammad Yousuf scored an unbeaten 81 runs and Shahid Afridi came up with a late quick-fire cameo of 25 runs off 12 balls. Irfan Pathan was the pick of the bowlers as he registered bowling figures of 9-1-34-3 which went into vain against the arch-rivals. Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly got dismissed for ducks in that match.
